Like many of us, my first memories of touch come from my mother - stroking my head when she tucked me into bed or firmly grasping my forearm and leaning in to remind me of the consequences of my behavior. While Maggie has made a living at being an expert in touch, I received most of my training in how to work this way from the gifted teachers at Innerstellar Yoga and Pilates in Berkeley. They taught me how to use touch to support and guide and dare I say, heal.
I am no expert in chakras, but the way I think about hands-on-assists has a lot to do with my understanding of our heart chakra. On a physical level, the heart chakra relates to our thymus gland, lungs, heart, pericardium, arms, and hands. On an emotional and energetic level, the heart chakra is the source of love and healing. This makes sense to me in a way that is completely nourishing. Afterall, love is an ultimate force for healing. When we touch others with a loving intent and an awareness of the connection between the energy from our heart, lungs, arms, and hands, we can heal. When we touch clients in class, we are using this framework. Yes, we are improving alignment. Yes, we are encouraging stronger engagement, but at Remedy, we also strive to work deeper. We strive to use our hands as conduits through which we can transmit the healing power of love.
Yesterday, a beloved client remarked that she has never been touched so much in a class as she has been at Remedy. This literally made my heart swell because I know it was done with loving intent. As we grow our team, we are hoping to continue to develop this capacity in ourselves. We have a couple of spots available for our Hands-On-Assist Workshop later this month. Please join us for this unique opportunity to share some love. We look forward to connecting with you in the workshop and classes this fall.
